Stellar crew draws high praise from Kaiser Los Angeles care liaison

PRN Ambulance and the crew of George Campbell and Steven De Caro were recently presented with a unique and challenging opportunity by Kaiser Los Angeles Medical Center to transport a patient home for hospice care. Though the transport was difficult due to the patient’s quickly declining health as well as the apparent emotional toll the situation took on his family, the compassionate PRN crew drew nothing but praise from all involved, as evidenced by the following letter sent to PRN by a hospital care liaison at Kaiser Los Angeles Medical Center: “I wanted to send an email of praise regarding your crew that came to Kaiser Los Angeles Medical Center early this afternoon to help with a VERY emotionally difficult situation. We had a 57-year-old male with End Stage Cardiomyopathy who was given a prognosis of ‘days’ to live. This man’s dying wish was to be on hospice and at home when he took his final breath. Hemodynamically, this man was VERY unstable; [systolic blood pressure] sat in the low 80s ON a LevoPhed infusion. “When the crew arrived, I met them at the door, as I knew that I needed to speak with them before they met with the patient and family. After a couple-minute briefing, the family started to come out of the room. Your EMT-P, George Campbell, IMMEDIATELY [showed] appropriate command and control of the scene. “This scene was not an auto accident on the 405 freeway. This scene was an ICU, with a dying man of a mere 57 years of age, grieving family members who wanted nothing more than to see their loved one...

Unique transport exemplifies PRN’s compassion and capabilities

Exhibiting the compassionate care and unmatched customer service that is the trademark of PRN Ambulance, a diverse team of PRN professionals recently banded together to successfully transport a uniquely sensitive patient. From start to finish, the event exemplified PRN’s ability to couple comprehensive transport coordination with efficient patient care on short notice. Fielding a wide range of transport requests is nothing new to PRN. As the leading interfacility transport specialist in Los Angeles, PRN knows that transport requests vary from the routine Basic Life Support trip scheduled well in advance to the same-day request to transport a high-acuity patient. In this case, the transport request was communicated directly to PRN Critical Care Manager Ian Wilson by the hospital’s director of case management during an in-person meeting, a sure sign of the transport’s critical nature. “We setup the call to be assigned to a hand-picked team of a CCT RN, EMTs and a station manager,” Wilson said. “This was a wait-and-return call for a lengthy procedure, and the patient required IV morphine to be administered every 5-to-10 minutes.” The 38-year-old patient’s undiagnosed condition required intensive pain control, gentle handling and an extremely cool environment. The PRN team spent nearly six hours attending to the female patient’s care requirements at two hospital locations as well as on the ambulance – not the easiest space in which to keep an ultra-sensitive patient comfortable. “I was able to meet the patient and her husband personally, and to obtain a quick overview of what special care the patient would need during the transport,” added Wilson. “Our team was able to successfully manage the patient’s...

PRN business development team grows by two savvy professionals

Customer service is essential to the success of PRN Ambulance and has been from the start. In addition to the personal touch provided by crew members in the field, the business development team is an invaluable asset to PRN and the healthcare facilities we serve. Bob Buslik and Edward Opulencia recently joined the BD team as Account Executives, each arriving with more than a decade of experience serving the healthcare industry in various roles. Bob’s professional healthcare experience began with roles in healthcare information systems and continued when he transitioned to the ambulance market in 2011. Bob has helped optimize operations and strategic account management in highly competitive markets, excelling as a specialist in business development. Most recently, Bob served as Vice President of Business Devlopment for MedResponse, Inc. after spending four years as Director of Business Development and Public Relations for Elite Ambulance, which was his first ambulance industry role. Bob earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management from Trinity University and an Associate of Arts in Health Science and Administration from California State University, Northridge. Edward got his start in the healthcare community as a Certified Nurse Assistant at Alamitos Belmont Rehabilitation Hospital and has since stayed on the healthcare and EMS path. He joined Pacific Ambulance in 2005 and spent seven years fulfilling numerous roles including EMT and Operations Supervisor. Alicia Foggmen, Bradford Adkins promoted to Station Manager roles

PRN Ambulance has strengthened its operational leadership in the field with the dual promotions of Alicia Foggmen and Bradford Adkins to Station Manager roles in Carson and Glendale, respectively. Alicia rises to the managerial role from a number of years in the PRN ComCenter while Bradford has served most recently as a PRN EMT. Each has a bounty of EMS experience. Alicia is an EMS veteran of more than 10 years who found a home in PRN when she joined the company as a Call Taker in 2010. She eventually earned promotions to Lead Dispatcher and Communications Training Officer, where she trained potential ComCenter candidates and other communication personnel. An avowed patient advocate, Alicia was driven to help those in need after witnessing the tragic death of a family member; she knew she wanted to be a paramedic from that moment forward. Soon after receiving her EMT certification in 2005, Alicia began working in Arizona’s 911 system. She experienced both rural and urban EMS, responding with lights and sirens to calls so rural that her crew would be the only resource available systemwide to respond to many patient emergencies. Alicia gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience by completing a paramedic certification program in 2008 while still in Arizona. Upon returning to Southern California, she continued in the EMS field as a Field Training Officer throughout Los Angeles County. A more recent addition to the PRN team, Bradford has a wealth of EMS experience. He joined PRN in January 2016 as an EMT, bringing 27 years of EMS know-how along with him. Bradford has held numerous managerial positions in EMS in which...
