Josh Parker receives promotion to Director of Training & Safety

PRN Ambulance has completed a key promotion, appointing Josh Parker to the newly defined position of Director of Training & Safety. In his new role with PRN, Josh is responsible for risk and safety measures throughout the company while also overseeing the Training Department. Josh’s much-deserved promotion to his first directorial position comes after he spent almost two years as PRN’s Training Manager, which is the position that brought Josh to the company early in 2016. Still at the forefront of PRN’s ongoing training efforts, Josh also provides leadership for essential aspects of operations including ambulance and station safety, claim management, continuing education and much more. In a decade as an emergency medical services professional, Josh has gained valuable insights to the EMS and healthcare fields as an EMT, Paramedic, Field Training Officer, Field Supervisor and EMT Instructor in Los Angeles County. He is certified as an American Heart Association Instructor in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support, and is a certified Federal Emergency Medical Services Instructor. Congratulations, Josh, we’re excited to see you grow into a new role at...

PRN hires new Director of Operations from sister company ProTransport-1

PRN Ambulance has a new Director of Operations after selecting Matt Condie for the integral leadership position. Matt transitions to PRN from its sister company in Northern California, ProTransport-1, where he most recently served as the company’s San Francisco and Alameda County Operations Manager. “Matt is a proven leader with a customer service focus and years of experience leading ambulance operations in high-volume, urban regions,” PRN General Manager Victoria Tatloyan said. “We’re excited to enhance our operations leadership with the addition of an EMS professional from within the larger PRN family.” A go-to resource within ProTransport-1 field operations leadership for the past three years, Matt works closely with the company’s Operations, ComCenter and Administration Departments to ensure safety and efficiency throughout PRN. Matt arrived at ProTransport-1 as an EMT working from the company’s Oakland station and steadily expanded his role at the company while continuing to provide excellent patient care. In six years at ProTransport-1, Matt progressed through the ranks of field leadership, fulfilling roles including Business Development EMT, Station Safety Officer and Station Supervisor prior to becoming San Francisco and Alameda County Operations Manager. Matt also earned an A.S. in Fire Science Technology at Las Positas...

Stellar crew draws high praise from Kaiser Los Angeles care liaison

PRN Ambulance and the crew of George Campbell and Steven De Caro were recently presented with a unique and challenging opportunity by Kaiser Los Angeles Medical Center to transport a patient home for hospice care. Though the transport was difficult due to the patient’s quickly declining health as well as the apparent emotional toll the situation took on his family, the compassionate PRN crew drew nothing but praise from all involved, as evidenced by the following letter sent to PRN by a hospital care liaison at Kaiser Los Angeles Medical Center: “I wanted to send an email of praise regarding your crew that came to Kaiser Los Angeles Medical Center early this afternoon to help with a VERY emotionally difficult situation. We had a 57-year-old male with End Stage Cardiomyopathy who was given a prognosis of ‘days’ to live. This man’s dying wish was to be on hospice and at home when he took his final breath. Hemodynamically, this man was VERY unstable; [systolic blood pressure] sat in the low 80s ON a LevoPhed infusion. “When the crew arrived, I met them at the door, as I knew that I needed to speak with them before they met with the patient and family. After a couple-minute briefing, the family started to come out of the room. Your EMT-P, George Campbell, IMMEDIATELY [showed] appropriate command and control of the scene. “This scene was not an auto accident on the 405 freeway. This scene was an ICU, with a dying man of a mere 57 years of age, grieving family members who wanted nothing more than to see their loved one...

Unique transport exemplifies PRN’s compassion and capabilities

Exhibiting the compassionate care and unmatched customer service that is the trademark of PRN Ambulance, a diverse team of PRN professionals recently banded together to successfully transport a uniquely sensitive patient. From start to finish, the event exemplified PRN’s ability to couple comprehensive transport coordination with efficient patient care on short notice. Fielding a wide range of transport requests is nothing new to PRN. As the leading interfacility transport specialist in Los Angeles, PRN knows that transport requests vary from the routine Basic Life Support trip scheduled well in advance to the same-day request to transport a high-acuity patient. In this case, the transport request was communicated directly to PRN Critical Care Manager Ian Wilson by the hospital’s director of case management during an in-person meeting, a sure sign of the transport’s critical nature. “We setup the call to be assigned to a hand-picked team of a CCT RN, EMTs and a station manager,” Wilson said. “This was a wait-and-return call for a lengthy procedure, and the patient required IV morphine to be administered every 5-to-10 minutes.” The 38-year-old patient’s undiagnosed condition required intensive pain control, gentle handling and an extremely cool environment. The PRN team spent nearly six hours attending to the female patient’s care requirements at two hospital locations as well as on the ambulance – not the easiest space in which to keep an ultra-sensitive patient comfortable. “I was able to meet the patient and her husband personally, and to obtain a quick overview of what special care the patient would need during the transport,” added Wilson. “Our team was able to successfully manage the patient’s...
